The Snapping Turtle lives in lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and marshes. They prefer slow moving waters with a muddy bottom. The biomes that these turtles live in are freshwater lakes and freshwater rivers. The Snapping Turtle likes to spend a lot of time hiding under the water while they wait for their prey (1). "Snapping turtles range across the eastern United States to the Rocky Mountains, from southern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, and into Central America."(1) In terms of inter-specific interactions, the Snapping Turtle usually keeps to itself. The only time a Snapping Turtle will have interactions with another member if its species is if it is mating. Likewise, the Snapping Turtle usually only has intra-specific interactions when they eat their prey. This kind of turtle is very aggressive, making it not a very social creature. The Snapping Turtle is a tertiary consumer, which means it feeds on the secondary consumers below them. An example of an organism this turtle would eat is a small bird.
